ACUPUNCTURE available from September 2010
Acupuncture is a form of Ancient Chinese medicine, which regards pain and illness, whether physical or mental, as a sign that the body is out of balance. This imbalance occurs when the body’s ‘Qi (‘life force’ or ‘vital energy’) cannot flow freely because the energy meridians have become blocked due to any number of reasons, such as emotional or physical trauma, poor nutrition, infection or injury. By inserting fine needles into specific points, your acupuncturist will seek to re-establish the free flow of Qi to restore balance and trigger the body’s healing response. A practitioner may also choose to treat you with Cupping (the use of applying glass cups to the skin after creating a vacumm with a flame. It is particularly effective for clearing stagnation from the channels) or Moxibustion (Moxa - mugwort is lit and held over specific acu-points to warm the areas/channels and relieve pain). In most cases they will also prescribe Nutrional advice and/or Herbal remedies. Acupuncture is an extremely gentle and safe treatment that can be used to treat a wide range of health conditions.
